Modafinil is well-known in the nootropics community these days. It’s used for ADD/ADHD, narcolepsy, and various sleep disturbance disorders.

Off-label use often leverages the wakefulness-promoting and concentration-enhancing effects of the drug. Students, military special forces, creatives, and business executives often use it to get more efficiency out of their study sessions or work days.

Few people are aware of the stronger version of this highly-regarded productivity enhancer— Armodafinil

Among the options available for armodafinil, Artvigil is one of the most common.

Here we discuss the uses of Artvigil, its limitations, and how it compares to other drugs in its class.

Modafinil vs. Armodafinil, What’s the Difference?

How many active ingredients are contained in modafinil? Depending on who you ask, you may get a slightly different answer.

A doctor might tell you that there is just one active constituent, modafinil! And this would be correct.

Ask a chemist, and they might tell you that there are two active ingredients, S-modafinil, and R-modafinil. They would also be correct.

How can there be two different answers to this question? How many are there?

The best way to understand this is to think about your two hands. Each one looks identical to the other, and have virtually the same functionality. Despite their similarities, they are also direct opposites of each other.

If asked to line your thumbs over top of each other, one hand is forced to flip upside down to do it. This is the same thing that happens with chemicals.

So in basic terms, there is only one modafinil chemical structure, but there are also both right and left-handed versions of it. We call these “enantiomers.”

Taking this into consideration, we can now discuss how modafinil and armodafinil are different from each other.

While modafinil has both the right-handed (R-modafinil) and left-handed (S-modafinil) versions of the drug, armodafinil only contains pure R-modafinil.

Although very similar, the effects of pure R-modafinil in products like Artvigil, are noticeably different than products containing both enantiomers (such as Modalert or Modvigil).

Why is Artvigil so Popular?

Artvigil is the cheapest form of armodafinil around, without sacrificing quality. This is the main reason for its popularity.

On average, Artivigil costs users 10% less than the main generic competitor, Waklert (by Sun Pharmaceuticals).

Both Arvigil and Waklert contain the same dose of armodafinil, at 150 mg per tablet, but there are some differences in their potency (see number 3 further down).

HAB Pharma Has a Good Reputation

HAB Pharmaceuticals is well-known worldwide despite operating primarily out of India.

The reason for this is that they decided to focus on contract manufacturing since their inception in 1980.

This means that there are a lot of other supplement and pharmaceutical products sold by other companies that are produced by HAB Pharmaceuticals labs. Companies will essentially pay HAB Pharmaceuticals to produce their medications for them, which they then market under their own brand.

It’s unknown how many drugs and supplements are actually made by HAB Pharmaceuticals. We know that they’re well-known in this space, however, which is a good indication of their reputation in the industry.

The company has an incredible team of scientists and lab technicians working for them who have a great deal of experience making pharmaceuticals. There is no reason a company like this would sacrifice the reputation they’ve built themselves on by producing sub-par medications.

It’s Not as Stimulating as Waklert or Nuvigil®

To many, this is a negative point. However, a lot of people find Waklert and other versions of armodafinil too stimulating. It can end up working against you, making you feel anxious and (ironically) less productive.

If you’re looking for a boost in cognition and find Waklert too strong, Artvigil is a good option.

That said, if you want something as strong as possible, Artvigil is probably not the best choice for you.

Where to Buy Artvigil

There are many online vendors selling Artvigil. Unfortunately, many of them are low quality, and some are even complete scams. Online modafinil and armodafinil vendors are notorious for poor customer service, long delivery times, and questionable business practices.

For this reason, we always try to recommend sources that we use and have found to be reliable, and affordable. Our current favourite source for Artvigil is AfinilExpress.com.

Patent Wars: Nuvigil® vs. Artvigil

Nuvigil® is the brand name version of pure R-modafinil produced by Cephalon Inc. They were the original manufacturers of the drug after they purchased the French research company that invented it, Lafon Labs.

Cephalon Inc paid 450 million dollars to acquire Lafon Labs specifically so that they could secure the exclusive rights to sell their flagship product, Provigil® (modafinil).

Along with modafinil, Cephalon Inc was able to produce the pure (enantiopure) R-modafinil, which they call Nuvigil®.

Cephalon Inc was the exclusive manufacturer of the drug for several years, collecting massive profits thanks to patent laws.

Several generic manufacturing companies, such as Actavis, and Sun Pharmaceuticals began challenging these patents in 2014, which they won, allowing other manufacturers to produce their own version of the drug.

This was a significant loss for Cephalon Inc, who still holds the patents for armodafinil until 2023.

Other Generic Versions of Armodafinil

  1. Acronite (by Consern Pharma) — India
  2. Armoda — ACI Pharmaceuticals (Symbiota), Bangladesh
  3. Armod — India (discontinued)
  4. Neoresotyl — Chile
  5. R-Modawake — India
  6. Waklert — (by Sun Pharma) India

What’s the Dose for Artvigil?

Artvigil is recommended by the manufacturer to be taken in doses of 150 mg per day (1 tablet). This is the standard dosage for armodafinil across the board, including both Nuvigil® and Waklert.

Exceeding 150 mg of armodafinil increases the chances of developing side effects.

Armodafinil has a longer half-life than modafinil, which means that it lasts longer in the body. Therefore, it’s recommended that only one dose of armodafinil is taken per day to avoid overstimulation in the evening when it’s time to go to sleep.

Some people are more sensitive to the effects of armodafinil and require a smaller dose. Artvigil makes this process simple by making their tablets with a crease down the center.

This makes it easy to split the pill into two identical 75 mg doses.

Does Artvigil Have Any Side-Effects?

Like any pharmaceutical medication, Artvigil has some side effects to watch out for.

Although most people experience very few side effects, on rare occasions, more severe side effects can result.

If side effects are encountered, depending on their severity, it’s recommended to either avoid taking Armodafinil or reduce the dose and frequency of the medication.

  • THE MAIN SIDE EFFECTS INCLUDE
    1. Headaches
    2. Dizziness
    3. Dry mouth
    4. Insomnia
    5. Nausea
    6. Euphoria
  • SEVERE SIDE EFFECTS MAY INCLUDE
    1. Confusion
    2. Disorientation
    3. Anxiety
    4. Paranoia
    5. Skin Irritations
    6. Hallucinations
    7. Extreme thirst and dehydration
    8. Aggression
    9. Suicidal thoughts

Managing Side-Effects of Armodafinil

Some people report no side effects after a single use but experience a gradual onset of side effects after a week or more of repeated armodafinil usage.

This is due to the half-life of the medication.

A half-life is a common way of measuring the duration of effects a drug has in the body. It’s a measurement of how much time it takes for exactly half of the medication to be cleared from the body.

If a new dose is taken before the drug has completely cleared, the concentration will increase above the recommended level.

This measurement is then used to calculate how often a dose of a medication should be taken.

The half-life of Artvigil is reported to be around 13 hours [1]. This means that if a new dose is taken at the 13-hour mark, we will have approximately 1.5 times the normal dose in the body (the full new dose plus the 50% remaining on the last dose).

To avoid compounding the concentrations of the drug in the bloodstream, it’s important to avoid taking more than one per day and have breaks where no medication is taken to help the body eliminate buildups of the drug.

It’s usually recommended to take at least one day off per week and one week off per month of Artvigil.

Summary of Artvigil: Should I Buy Some?

Artvigil is the cheapest form of armodafinil but has slightly less potency when compared to Nuvigil® or Waklert.

It’s considered one of the best pharmaceutical nootropics for improving focus, concentration, mem

ory, and wakefulness. This makes it useful for anybody who needs to remain awake and vigilant.

This often includes students cramming for an exam, office workers trying to finish a tough project, writers and artists, as well as military special forces on long overnight missions.

We highly recommend Artivigil if you’re looking for a strong boost in productivity and don’t mind the possibility of having some minor side effects like insomnia.
